Whistle
by kj

He has a bag of desires.
It hangs between his legs.
Sometimes it costs him.
Other times it pays.
She knows all about it. Lady has a purse.
Sometimes it costs her. Other times it pays.
Today it is going to cost him. Tonight she is going to cash in.
Neither of them know why he is paying.
They both get enough of this at work.
That is the trouble. They can't get enough.
But he paid. She is his now; sort of...
When she went flat. He slid near.
Fingered her body for drugs.
Found something he liked.
She knew she remembered him from somewhere.
Too late for anything but kicking or biting.
It started off jaw dropping, ended with jaw bouncing.
She is not swimming away from that pool of blood.
He made it out alive, except now he is wearing fingernails.
At dawn he took the dope, earning him his last certificate.
This story has no hero, but it does have heroine.
